3 key take-aways: AWS Summit London 2023

The event: AWS Summit London, 7th June 2023.

AWS Summits are a series of free online and in-person events, in different global cities, that bring the cloud computing community together to connect, collaborate, and learn about AWS.

The Bexprt team – Mo Hamdy (CEO), Mahmoud El Zayet (Head of Cloud BU), and Gwen Edwards (CMO) – were part of the 100 plus Partners who joined 16,000 attendees at ExCel London for AWS Summit London 2023. This colossal event included 70+ sessions delivered by AWS subject matter experts, Partners, and customers who have successfully built solutions on AWS, exhibition spaces, interactive workshops, labs, technical break out sessions, a dedicated Public Sector Track, in addition to some fun with AWS DeepRacer and an F1 Ferrari Simulator, and keynote speeches from AWS Senior Leadership in the huge auditorium.

Below: keynotes from Tanuja Randery, MD EMEA AWS, and Swami Sivasubramanian, VP Database, Analytics & ML at AWS.

📌 “Digital technology could grow the UK economy by over £413 billion by 2030.” Tanuja Randery, MD EMEA AWS

📌 “Dig deep, and go for the most transformational ideas when times are tough.”  “Cloud magnifies the benefits in uncertain times.” Swami Sivasubramanian, VP Database, Analytics & ML at AWS.

Bexprt’s 3 key take-aways

Mahmoud El Zayet, Bexprt’s Head of Cloud, shares three highlights which really stood out for him at AWS Summit London 2023.

1. Generative AI takes centre stage

This might not be news, but Generative AI is a core focus for all hyper-scalers, and AWS is no exception. Generative AI is perceived as an inflection point in AI, and its ability to generate tangible output (images, videos, text) is steaming the adoption engine. AWS is partnering with big names – at the Summit AWS showcased their work with Accenture – to lead with new use cases for big customers. Contact Centres, Finance teams, Business Analysts, Marketing and HR departments are all examples of areas likely to be disrupted soon by Gen AI.

Accenture shared data from their recent report,

– In 5 out of 22 occupation groups, Gen AI can affect more than half of all hours worked

– 40% of all working hours across all industries can be impacted by LLMs (large language models)

– 62% of total time worked are language tasks….

– 65% of that time can be transformed into more productivity through augmentation & reality.

📌 GenAI LLMs achieved 100m monthly active users just 2 months after launch, making it the fastest-growing consumer application in history.

📌 CodeWhisperer is the fastest-growing AWS service.

Dive deeper: link to Accenture’s new report, here.

2. Industry and use-case focus continues

A theme that started a few years back, but AWS is putting big efforts behind personalizing use cases into industries and creating an internal workforce that understands customer needs. AWS sessions at the summit focussed on areas including Retail/Consumer Goods, Sustainability, Governments, Energy sector and more. As always, AWS leading with customer obsession!

Left: Will Cavendish, Global Digital Services Leader at ARUP.  Right: Tanuja Randery, MD EMEA AWS, shares insights from AWS work with The Very Group.

3. Simplification

‘Invent and simplify’ is already an Amazon Leadership principle, but as Cloud competition builds up, AWS is putting more effort into simplification.

No Code / Low Code is not just positioned at developers anymore but has been extended to Data Scientists. Amazon SageMaker Canvas is showing a big milestone in balancing simplicity with AI accuracy – the AWS team showcased work by the international professional cycle team INEOS Grenadiers, to analyze race data, predict outcomes, and identify the most influential parameters.

Bexprt celebrates receiving UK Government award for Digital Exports

17th May 2023 – Wokingham, UK & Riyadh, KSA – UK-based technology business, Bexprt, today announced that it has been recognised by the UK Government and the Institute of Export & International Trade with a Made in the UK, Sold to the World award for Digital Exports

The inaugural awards recognise and celebrate the global trading success of UK businesses, and were judged by Senior Officials at the UK Government Department for Business & Trade, and Marco Forgione, Director General of the Institute of Export & International Trade (IOE&IT). [1]  In the Digital Exports category, Bexprt is one of three UK businesses awarded Highly Commended status “for their inspiring business stories and exporting prowess”. [2]

The UK is the world’s second-largest exporter of digitally delivered services, valued at over £252 billion in 2021. [3]  Exports minister Andrew Bowie said the awards are an “excellent way of celebrating some fantastic businesses punching above their weight” in international markets. [1]

Bexprt, an independent UK business, enables clients with technology-driven business transformation, via cloud consulting and services, ICT professional services, cyber security services, and business consulting.

“Congratulations to our fellow ‘Made in the UK, Sold to the World’ award winners!,” commented Bexprt CEO and Founder, Mo Hamdy. “I’m thrilled that Bexprt has received this UK Export Award. We celebrated our 5th year in business this Spring, and as a specialist UK technology company, it has been an exciting and dynamic time to trade internationally. Our turnover has quadrupled in 4 years, and over 90% of our revenue is generated from international trade.”

Founded in Wokingham in March 2018, and entirely self-funded, Bexprt has projects in 16 countries across 4 continents, and employs an expert team of 23 staff from 8 nationalities, who together speak more than 10 languages.

“Everything Bexprt delivers enables businesses and clients to work together more efficiently. International trade is vital to Bexprt’s success, and has been a core part of our approach and strategic plan since day one. As well as working for clients in traditional UK export markets, such as the US, Ireland and Germany, we also trade in Cameroon and Uzbekistan amongst others, plus we have significant business in Saudi Arabia and the wider Gulf region.”

With increasing business in the Middle East and Africa, Bexprt opened its first international branch in December 2022 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Today, the business is actively engaged with key tier 1 partners, in cloud and telecom services. In January, Bexprt achieved ‘AWS Partner Select’ status, and became the fastest-growing partner for Amazon Web Services in the Gulf region.

Mo commented, “As we accelerate the number of clients we work with, and deliver innovative, sustainable, and cost-optimised solutions, it’s good to take a moment to reflect on the success this expert team has achieved, and the large number of international opportunities this UK technology business has in its pipeline.”

“Our achievements in the last 6 months – new Saudi company, new offices in Riyadh, our growing partnership and status with AWS, and strong business wins across the telecom, cloud and ICT sectors – are very significant. We’re really humbled to receive this award; it’s brilliant public recognition of the team’s expertise and hard work. Thank you to our clients and partners for their trust in Bexprt.”

Case Study: Digis Squared’s migration to AWS

Bexprt transformed Digis Squared’s telecom products to deliver AWS cloud-native mobile network testing and optimization, improving the total time to test and analyze.

Bexprt leveraged AWS capabilities to transform Digis Squared’s current mobile network Drive Testing and QoE (Quality of Experience) products to become AWS cloud-native, and created a data lake for further network performance predictions using AWS ML and analytics capabilities.

Digis Squared efficiently deploy, transform and manage telecom networks. Headquartered in the UK, with a technology and support centre in Egypt, regional offices in UAE, Saudi Arabia and Angola, they deliver Managed Services, System Integration and Consulting capability to MNOs, CSPs and Regulators. Their independent expertise, and vendor-agnostic multi-technology AI-products, are valued by clients across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, to optimize and enable smarter networks.

The challenge & cloud opportunity

Digis Squared has a number of products, and wanted to migrate to AWS to,

  • offer AWS cloud-native tools to their clients, for network testing and performance prediction
  • benefit from enhanced performance
  • offer a pay-as-you-grow model
  • leverage AWS data lake and AI capabilities, and additional enhancements to advanced analytics.

The solution & services used

The results & benefits

In just 2 weeks, the Bexprt team ensured the customer achieved the successful migration of two of their key products to AWS, and they are already benefitting from faster total time to test and analyze.

Next step: building the data lake from the generated network logs, for further network performance predictions using Bexprt ML and analytics capabilities.

“The Bexprt team are very professional and knowledgeable, generously sharing their expertise with the Digis Squared team – they really helped us above and beyond throughout this project. The onboarding of our platform onto AWS was successfully and smoothly completed in a very short period of time, and we already have clients who are benefitting from the deployment.”

“Looking to the next steps, the AWS data analytics capability will further enhance our ML capabilities, and deliver powerful new analytics capabilities for us, and our clients. I’m excited to see what we’ll be able to deliver with this, and the advanced telecoms network testing and performance prediction it will enable.” Abdelrahman Fady, CTO at Digis Squared

Case Study: Smart factories digital transformation

This customer leads the way for smart factories on a digital transformation journey in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

About the customer

Specializing in the niche sector of packaging and building materials production, this customer is ranked amongst the top 100 prestigious Saudi companies in the Kingdom and the region. With 50 years’ of experience, they support the needs of the food security, industry, and construction sectors. They have 11 factories with a total annual production capacity of 646 thousand tons, revenue of over $800m, and exports to three continents. They are aggressively expanding their operations, and retaining their focus on business value realization

The challenge

The client’s supply chain operations generate thousands of paper delivery notes, used manually by drivers, workers, and professionals between their plants and their customers to confirm the movement of goods. Such physical papers are at risk of being lost, damaged or defaced in the time between manual handling and physical archiving. Retrieval of such physical paper notes takes time and resources, is a tedious manual process, and requires expenditure on space, investment, and maintenance of physical storage – these costs and efforts have an exponential impact as the operations grow. The client wanted to retain the use of the physical papers but digitally transform the way the data was handled and archived.

The cloud opportunity

  • Automate the physical delivery note archiving process utilizing AWS cloud services.
  • Securely save and retrieve scanned delivery notes using AWS resilient storage services
  • Index the delivery notes using advanced AWS Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML), leveraging advanced search capabilities.

The results & benefits

In March 2023, just a few weeks after initiating the project, Bexprt deployed an archiving and indexing solution, Bextract™, utilizing optical character recognition (OCR) and additional AI/ML enhancements.

  • Securely archived 50,000+ physical papers on AWS resilient cloud, and implemented a process to handle all new paperwork
  • Bexprt developed a secure web interface and user access management to ensure the same solution could be securely used by different parts of the client’s group of businesses, and flex and manage dynamic changes in business operational demands.
  • Additional transformational capability developed by Bexprt includes document retrieval features using ML capability.
  • Using Bextract™ ML capabilities we were able to recognize all the information in the hand-written notes, delivering enhanced accuracy for the business.
  • The digital transformation project increased the operational efficiency of real-time notes retrieval from hours or days to seconds.
  • The delivery of this project will assist the client with their ISO 27001 compliance, by ensuring specific data can be masked (obscured) automatically.

Recap & highlights from Leap 2023

The event: LEAP 2023, Riyadh 6-9 February 2023 with 100,000+ tech innovators and leading experts from around the world.

Part One: Mo Hamdy’s recap

Bexprt CEO, Mo Hamdy, shares his thoughts on key takeaways and key announcements he thinks will make a significant difference in the Saudi market.

“What a week! The first time I’ve attended a big tech event in Riyadh, and participated as one of the exhibitors. I was impressed with the “real business transformation” and digital enablement happening across all industries in the Kingdom, and the growth happening in such a promising market.

There were a number of stand-out announcements during the event that caught my attention,
📌
Amazon Web Services (AWS) & Mobily digital transformation for providing cloud computing agreement.
📌AWS in partnership with
#McitGovSa establishing the first-of-a-kind local competence development training centre.
📌AWS &
Zain KSA strategic agreement to accelerate the enablement of #5Gservice to businesses and consumers via #AWScloud.
📌
Oracle to invest $1.5Bn in Saudi by opening a new local data centre.
📌
Microsoft announces that they will have a local region in Saudi.
📌Meeting great Saudi entrepreneurs at the start-up’s hall and garage hall for “Pre-seed/Seed” phase companies.
📌Above all, the Kingdom has secured investments worth $9bn in ICT industry during the event.

These announcements demonstrate how strong, solid, and promising the Saudi market is, and the acceleration of public cloud adoption in the Saudi market across all industries. It will be interesting to see how other hyper-scalers respond to these moves, particularly the announcements of Oracle and Microsoft, and the pace at which they implement.

At Bexprt, we are fortunate to be actively involved in this transformational movement, and contribute our fair share as a Cloud and Cyber Security professional services provider locally in Saudi.

Our decision to place our first international branch outside of England, in Saudi, and the actions we have taken that have led us to become the fastest growing partner locally for AWS, demonstrates how serious the Bexprt team are about this country, and the opportunities we see in the Kingdom.”

AWS re:Invent 2022 ◦ The game changers identified by the Bexprt team

Being customer-centric is core to the DNA of AWS features.

In yesterday’s re:Invent Keynote,  Adam Selipsky translated enterprise customers’ dreams into tangible solutions, and here at Bexprt we believe these to be a game changer.

Many topics were addressed by Adam in his rich 140-minute keynote, the Data Analytics theme resonated most strongly with the Bexprt team, as it matches our differentiating competitive advantage, and aligns with what our customers are truly looking for in their day-to-day business challenges.

Adam channelled the focus of the data and analytics section of his Keynote into three main focus areas,

1. Integration

How many times has your business faced difficulties in manually building ETL Pipelines to move your data from transactional Aurora DB to Redshift cluster to perform intense analytical-based queries?

If that issue resonates with you, the future looks simpler! Yesterday, AWS announced serverless Zero-ETL integration that dynamically scales up and down depending on data volume to leverage near real-time analytics and ML on transactional data. Additionally, Redshift is now integrated with Apache Spark to run queries from EMR, Glue and SageMaker in seconds.

2. Governance

Enterprises we work with are looking for a data management service that is able to catalogue, discover and share data with fine-grained controls, to govern access to data, and easily search using business terms.

AWS announced the imminent arrival of DataZone, which has a web portal that brings data and people together. Data producers can set up a business data catalogue, and then connect it with data sources using ML to populate the data with appropriate metadata. This powerful new capability will enable data consumers to search and browse the catalogue, and even define data projects.

DataZones are empowered by APIs to work with other Analytics tools such as Tableau or Snakeflow.

3. Insights

Operational paginated reports have been announced to help enterprises who are looking for business-critical operational reports that require specific formatting requirements.

ML-powered forecasting with Q enables business users to forecast any metric into the future, taking into account seasonality, anomalies and outliers.

Additionally, the amazing ‘Why?’ feature enables you to provide potential explanations for why certain metrics have changed.

Bexprt is your trusted advisor when it comes to making sense of the cloud. Please don’t hesitate to contact our experts who are always pleased to take your business forward.
