Senior Cloud Engineer – Migration & Infrastructure

About this role

Full-time, based in Cairo, Egypt, and a key part of the Cloud Delivery Team, reporting to the Head of Cloud Delivery.

As a Senior AWS Infrastructure and Migration Engineer, you will be responsible for guiding clients through the process of migrating their IT infrastructure to AWS. You will leverage your expertise in AWS services, infrastructure architecture, and migration strategies to assess, plan, and execute seamless migrations for clients. This sometimes involves hybrid/on-premises extended architectures such as in the case of using AWS for Disaster Recovery or using AWS Outposts. This role requires a deep understanding of infrastructure technology (storage, networking, virtualization…etc.), cloud computing principles, excellent communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

Key responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of clients’ existing IT infrastructure, applications, and workloads.
  • Analyse technical requirements, dependencies, and constraints to develop migration strategies tailored to each client’s needs.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define migration goals, timelines, and success criteria.
  • Design scalable, secure, and cost-efficient AWS architectures based on best practices and client requirements.
  • Implement high availability, fault tolerance, and disaster recovery solutions within AWS environments.
  • Lead migration, disaster recovery and AWS Outposts projects from inception to completion, ensuring minimal disruption to business operations.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to client teams on AWS best practices, tools, and services.
  • Stay up to date with the latest AWS services, features, and industry trends.

Qualifications and skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Candidates with AWS certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, or AWS Certified Advanced Networking Specialist are preferred.
  • Strong understanding of networking, security, and virtualization principles
  • Proven experience in designing, implementing, and managing AWS-based solutions, including migrations from on-premises environments.
  • Deep understanding of cloud computing principles, infrastructure components, and services offered by AWS (e.g., EC2, S3, RDS, VPC, Lambda, etc.).
  • Hands-on experience with AWS services such as AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery (DRS), AWS Server Migration Service (SMS), AWS Database Migration Service (DMS), AWS Migration Hub, etc.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with clients and internal teams.
  • Experience with migration assessment tools, methodologies, and best practices is a plus.
  • Experience with AWS Outposts is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience with VMware vSphere, vCenter, NSX, and other VMware technologies is a plus.
  • Experience designing and implementing hybrid cloud solutions such as VMware on AWS is a plus.
